MINNEAPOLIS — Target said it is bringing back its popular Car Seat Trade-In program this spring, giving parents an eco-friendly way to dispose of used gear—and an incentive to stock up on new baby essentials.
From April 27 to May 10, customers can bring old, expired, or damaged car seats to Target stores and receive a 20% Target Circle bonus toward the purchase of a new car seat, stroller, or other baby gear. The offer is part of a broader baby promotion launching the same day, with discounts of up to 20% on hundreds of items across categories such as toys, apparel, travel accessories and more—even for those who don’t have a car seat to trade in.
Launched in 2016, the Car Seat Trade-In program has become a hallmark of Target’s sustainability and family-friendly retail efforts. To date, the retailer has recycled nearly 50 million pounds of materials from car seats, keeping them out of landfills. Last spring’s event was the company’s largest yet, with nearly 440,000 car seats collected.
“This program is a win-win—it helps families save money while reducing environmental waste,” a Target spokesperson said. “We’re proud to support our guests through every stage of parenthood.”
Beyond the trade-in deal, Target is using the event to spotlight over 2,000 new baby and toddler products now available in its stores and online. Featured items range from nursery and feeding essentials to wellness and postpartum care, including the exclusive Cloud Island Boxy Diaper Backpack, Oat Mama “Slay Mama” Lactation Supplements, and high-quality skincare-first diapers from bumbum.
Other notable additions include Earth Mama Organics Diaper Balm, a new up&up Wipe Dispenser, and sensory-focused toys like the Play Gym Set by Lalo, the Cloud Island Interactive Soft Book, and the Itzy Ritzy crinkle rattle.
The Car Seat Trade-In program will run in all Target stores nationwide with participating drop-off locations typically located near Guest Services. Additional information is available on Target’s website.
