MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. announced a number of management changes on Tuesday, including the firing of the head of its Canadian operations, as the discount retailer continues its leadership shakeup.

Target Corp. announced a number of management changes on Tuesday, including the firing of the head of its Canadian operations, as the discount retailer continues its leadership shakeup.

Tony Fisher, president of Target Canada, is departing immediately and being replaced by Mark Schindele, senior vice president of merchandising operations, the company said.

"Mark is a results-driven leader who brings 22 years of retailing experience, including 15 years at Target, to the position," the company said in a prepared statement.

Target also said it would create a new non-executive role as chairman in Canada "to provide counsel and support to the president of Target Canada to ensure all strategies and tactics align with the Canadian marketplace."

In the United States, Target is promoting three senior merchandising leaders and realigning the team as it seeks to improve performance. Trish Adams will become executive vice president of apparel and home, Jose Barra has been promoted to executive vice president of essentials and hard lines, and Keri Jones will be executive vice president of merchandising planning and operations.

The moves follow the recent and abrupt resignation of Target president and chief executive officer Gregg Steinhafel after the company experienced a massive data breach during the holiday shopping season and stumbled last year in its foray into Canada.
