The GIANT Company gives to local hunger relief efforts on Giving Tuesday

Includes $60,000 to local Salvation Army Corps and 3,000 hams to food banks and pantries

 CARLISLE, Pa. – In celebration of Giving Tuesday, The GIANT Company has announced $60,000 in donations to local Salvation Army Corps and 3,000 hams to area hunger relief organizations.

“Hunger doesn’t take a break during the holidays,” said Jennifer Scott, chief human resources and community relations officer, The GIANT Company. “With more families facing food insecurity this holiday season, The GIANT Company is doing its part to contribute to the local efforts of our hunger relief partners to ensure all of our neighbors have full plates.”

The GIANT Company is supporting The Salvation Army’s holiday hunger relief programs by donating $5,000 to 12 Salvation Army locations for a total donation of $60,000. Recipient Salvation Army locations in Pennsylvania include Boyertown, Carlisle, Chambersburg, East Stroudsburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Levittown, Norristown, Philadelphia, Sunbury, and the Winchester, Va. location.

"No one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from, especially during the holidays,” said Lt. Colonel Edgar George, Jr. Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division. “Thanks to The GIANT Company’s generous support, we can provide nourishing meals and relief to families in need across Eastern Pennsylvania. Their partnership reminds our neighbors that they are not alone, and that joy and compassion are still very much alive this season.”

In addition, to ensure families have a centerpiece dish at their holiday table, The GIANT Company is donating 3,000 hams to 20 food banks and pantries across its operating area this month, including the following hunger relief partners:

  • Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Harrisburg Pa.
  • Chester County Food Bank, Exton, Pa.
  • Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County, Springfield, Pa.
  • First Fruit Farms, Shrewsbury, Pa.
  • Helping Harvest Food Bank, Reading, Pa.
  • Indiana County Community Action Program, Indiana, Pa.
  • Lancaster County Food Hub, Lancaster, Pa.
  • Manna on Main Street, North Wales, Pa.
  • Maryland Food Bank, Hagerstown, Md.
  • Mary’s Cupboard, Fairless Hills, Pa.
  • The Nehemiah Project, Altoona, Pa.
  • New Britain Food Pantry, New Britain, Pa.
  • Philabundance, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Rappahannock Food Pantry, Culpeper, Va.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank, Bethlehem, Pa.
  • Shelter Services, Lewistown, Pa.
  • Urban League of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • York County Food Bank, Manchester, Pa.

 Customers can also join The GIANT Company to make a difference this holiday season. From Dec. 12 through Dec. 24, customers at any GIANT, MARTIN’S or GIANT Heirloom Market store can donate free ham certificates at the register in-store to a local food bank. In addition, customers can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar at checkout to benefit their local hunger relief organization.
