CARLISLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania shoppers can now add ready-to-drink cocktails to their grocery lists. Following the signing of Act 86 of 2024 into law earlier this year, The GIANT Company says it will begin selling these pre-mixed beverages at nearly all of its GIANT and MARTIN'S stores in the state.

“We’re excited to expand our offering to customers starting today, with canned cocktails rolling out to 138 stores across Pennsylvania,” said Rebecca Lupfer, senior vice president and chief merchant at The GIANT Company. She emphasized that the addition of ready-to-drink cocktails comes in response to a growing demand from customers who value the convenience of picking up these beverages while grocery shopping.

The change comes in response to Act 86 of 2024, signed into law on July 17, which allows for the sale of ready-to-drink cocktails in Pennsylvania. These beverages, defined by the law as pre-mixed drinks containing distilled liquor and nonalcoholic ingredients, can be sold in containers up to 16 ounces. The new law has opened the door for retailers like GIANT to expand their alcohol offerings and provide customers with a broader selection of beverages.

Shoppers will find popular regional and national brands such as Surfside/Stateside and High Noon on the shelves. This marks a new era for alcohol sales in Pennsylvania, as ready-to-drink cocktails are now available alongside beer and wine in GIANT and MARTIN'S stores.

Customers can purchase these ready-to-drink cocktails seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., at GIANT and MARTIN'S stores with approved licenses. The drinks will be available only in stores that have the appropriate beer and wine departments, where customers can already purchase their favorite alcoholic beverages.

As with all alcohol sales, GIANT Company enforces strict age verification policies. Cashiers will require proper identification—such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID—regardless of the customer’s age. Purchases must be made at registers within the beer and wine department, and customers will be able to buy up to 192 ounces of ready-to-drink cocktails per transaction, in addition to other alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine.

The GIANT Company has been a destination for alcohol purchases in Pennsylvania since 2011, when beer first became available in its stores, followed by wine sales in 2016. With the introduction of ready-to-drink cocktails, the retailer is further enhancing its offerings to meet customer demand.

“We have heard from our customers about the convenience of being able to grab ready-to-drink cocktails while grocery shopping,” Lupfer noted. By adding this new option, GIANT aims to make shopping for beverages as seamless as possible, positioning itself as a one-stop shop for all of its customers' grocery and alcohol needs.

As Pennsylvania continues to modernize its liquor laws, The GIANT Company is leading the way in adapting to these changes, ensuring that customers have easy access to the beverages they want—right where they shop.
