LANDOVER, Md. — Tonya Douglas is an experienced merchandising executive with expertise gained over three decades in supermarket operations ranging from category management to pricing and from promotions to merchandising planning.

As senior vice president of omnichannel merchandising and chief merchant for Ahold Delhaize USA’s Giant Food banner, Douglas is pivotal in driving strategic leadership, business plan design and P&L responsibility within the grocer’s merchandising organization. Giant Food has 163 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

Douglas assumed her current role last spring after serving as senior VP of omnichannel development for Peapod Digital Labs, where she was instrumental in leading the commercial evolution of Ahold Delhaize USA’s omnichannel ambitions. Her primary focus was streamlining processes, improving working methods, and establishing commercial tools, systems and processes that would ensure a durable future for the company’s U.S. businesses.

Douglas joined Peapod Digital Labs in early 2022 after serving for about four years as senior VP of merchandising for Giant Food. She previously served as senior VP of edible grocery and fuel for Ahold Delhaize USA, where she was responsible for strategic leadership, direction, and business plan design and execution for the grocery food, dairy, frozen and fuel teams. Earlier, she worked for Safeway in various roles. Douglas considers mentoring others an important part of her role, as she wants to leave behind a legacy of empowerment.
