Uncle Giuseppe’s opens Greenvale store, expands Long Island footprint

The new store is the specialty grocer’s 13th store overall and ninth on Long Island.

GREENVALE, N.Y. – Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace celebrated the grand opening of its newest Long Island location today, at Wheatley Plaza in Greenvale, marking the specialty grocer’s 13th store overall and ninth on Long Island.

The new store at 130 Wheatley Plaza welcomed shoppers with a festive grand opening that included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a towering five-foot, 2,100-pound wheel of Grana Padano cheese, a cannoli cart and a food truck serving fresh zeppoles.

The new location takes the place of a Stop & Shop in a 52,000-square-foot space in the shopping center.

Co-founder and CEO Carl DelPrete said the Greenvale opening represents a milestone for the family-owned retailer, which was founded more than 25 years ago with the goal of recreating the neighborhood markets the founders remembered growing up.

“Greenvale is our 13th store, and standing here before everybody brings back memories of how this all started,” DelPrete said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He recalled the company’s vision of creating markets where skilled butchers, bakers, cheesemakers and produce experts deliver quality products alongside exceptional customer service.

DelPrete noted that the store opening was particularly meaningful following the passing of his brother and company co-founder, Philip, last year. "I'm sure he is looking down and smiling," he said.

“Today behind these doors, we have more than 280 hardworking, dedicated team members ready to serve this community,” he said. “Our promise to Greenvale is simple. We will give you incredible food, world-class service and that same old-world market experience that’s at the heart of what Uncle Giuseppe’s has always been.”

“Our team members are the heart and soul of every Uncle Giuseppe’s,” said DelPrete. “We are a company that believes in made fresh, sold fresh every day in every store, and it takes hardworking, dedicated people who care about the food and care about the customers.”

The Greenvale location is designed as one of the chain’s flagship stores, according to Nick Renna, director of marketing and e-commerce for the grocery chain, who described it as a large-format marketplace featuring many of the retailer’s signature offerings.

“This store is one of our flagship stores,” he said. “It has all the bells and whistles of what a full Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace should be.”

The store includes scratch-made breads, fresh mozzarella and pasta production, an expansive deli department, a scratch bakery, traditional seafood counters and full-service butcher operations.

Located at the intersection of Glen Cove Road and Northern Boulevard, the store anchors Wheatley Plaza, one of Long Island’s best-known shopping centers. During the opening ceremony, DelPrete thanked the Castania family, owners of the shopping center, for bringing the grocer to the property.

During the ribbon cutting the retailer also presented a $100,000 check to Cohen Children’s Medical Center (part of the Northwell Health Foundation).

The Greenvale opening continues a period of expansion for the retailer. Renna confirmed that Uncle Giuseppe’s plans to open its 14th store later this year in Levittown, with the location scheduled to debut during the fourth quarter of 2026.

“We look forward to number 14 with Levittown at the end of this year,” he said.

With the Greenvale store now open, Uncle Giuseppe’s continues to strengthen its presence across Long Island while remaining focused on the specialty food, fresh-made offerings and personalized service that have defined the brand since its founding.
