Wahlstrom returns to Stop & Shop

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Supervalu Inc. has named Larry Wahlstrom president of Shaw’s Supermarkets after a one-year retirement.

Supervalu Inc. has named Larry Wahlstrom president of Shaw’s Supermarkets after a one-year retirement.

He replaces Mike Witynski, who had succeeded Wahlstrom, and who has left the company.

Wahlstrom was initially named president of Shaw’s in September 2007. He had been president of Supervalu’s Jewel-Osco operation in Chicago since 2004, following a long career in Jewel-Osco’s food and drug operations as well as executive posts at Albertsons Inc.

Wahlstrom returns after a turbulent year that has seen all of Shaw’s Connecticut stores sold and a strike by distribution center workers that ended last month.
