DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) and VillageMD announced Monday the opening of the first Village Medical at Walgreens primary care practice in Las Vegas, with more scheduled to open in the market by the end of this year.
“VillageMD and Walgreens are working together to provide coordinated primary care and pharmacy services that we know patients want and deserve for themselves and their family members,” said David Hatfield, president of Village Medical.
Village Medical at Walgreens is a Village Medical primary care practice conveniently located alongside a Walgreens pharmacy location. Village Medical physicians and Walgreens pharmacy team members work together to provide patients cost-effective, expert care for chronic conditions, as well as everyday illnesses and injuries. Physicians and pharmacists collaborate closely to fill prescriptions immediately following medical visits, at the same location if patients choose, and ensure patients have access to high-quality care and medical expertise.
A recent survey of Nevadans shows the need for this kind of care. The survey found 65% of participants worry about whether they can afford the cost of health care, and over half reported experiencing delays or gaps in accessing healthcare over the past 12 months due to the cost.
“From lab tests to annual physicals, management of chronic conditions and prescriptions, navigating healthcare can often be overwhelming,” said Anita Allemand, chief transformation and integration officer for Walgreens Boots Alliance. “Walgreens and VillageMD’s combined expertise in primary care and pharmacy allows patients to better manage their care, helping local communities get and stay healthy.”
Village Medical at Walgreens primary care practices in the Las Vegas market will also create more than 45 full-time jobs and directly employ nearly 40 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professionals, such as physicians, nurse practitioners and medical assistants. Physicians and pharmacists are supported with high-tech tools, optimized electronic medical records and reduced administrative tasks, empowering them to focus on providing patient care and achieving positive health outcomes.
With the Las Vegas opening, VillageMD and Walgreens now have more than 150 Village Medical at Walgreens locations in markets across the country – including in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Georgia and Rhode Island, in addition to Nevada – and are on track toward 200 practices by the end of this year.
Village Medical at Walgreens practices accept a wide range of health insurance including Medicaid and Medicare in participating markets. Patients may access care and support through in-person, at-home and telehealth visits.
