DEERFIELD, Ill. — Staying healthy during the holiday season can be challenging, as unexpected illnesses often disrupt plans. According to a Walgreens survey, nearly half of Americans (47%) have missed a holiday event in recent years due to illness, and one in three worry about it happening again this year. Recognizing this concern, Walgreens is focusing its 2024 holiday campaign on proactive health measures, offering promotions and resources to help customers prioritize wellness.
“Eighty-two percent of survey respondents shared that prioritizing their health and well-being is a key focus,” said Heather Hughes, group vice president and general merchandise manager of health and beauty at Walgreens. “Nearly 40% plan to take preventative measures, such as getting vaccinated.”
Walgreens provides convenient options for flu, COVID-19, RSV, pneumonia, and other routine vaccinations through walk-ins and appointments nationwide. In addition, customers can access Walgreens Virtual Healthcare for online consultations, prescriptions, and advice from the comfort of home.
Additional recommendations and supportive products at Walgreens include:
- Bolster the immune system with dietary supplements like Walgreens Free & Pure Vitamin C with Natural Rose Hips & Citris Bioflavonoid Complex Tablets, which contain antioxidants, electrolytes, amino acids, and Vitamin C, or Walgreens Chewable Zinc + Vitamin C Tablets which may support energy metabolism, immune, cardiovascular and bone health.
- Prioritize self-care with products like Walgreens Lavender Epsom Salt, Walgreens Multipurpose Vibration Therapy Wrap, or Walgreens Sleep Aid De-Stress Gummies to help unwind for a good night’s sleep or recover after a productive workout. Prioritizing sleep and healthy eating, regular exercise, and minimizing consumption of alcohol and sugar all lend to self-care, reducing stress, and a happy and healthy holiday season.
- See a doctor or nurse practitioner online, get a diagnosis, and fill prescriptions, if needed, from the comfort of home via Walgreens Virtual Healthcare.
The survey also highlighted generational trends, with younger Americans, including 75% of Gen Z and 70% of Millennials, showing greater commitment to making lifestyle changes to stay healthy during the holidays. However, they reported challenges in finding affordable health and wellness products compared to older Americans.
“This growing momentum to prioritize health ahead of the holiday season is inspiring,” added Hughes. “As schedules get busier, we’re here to provide convenient, affordable access to the health products and services our customers need.”
Walgreens stores will be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Customers can take advantage of in-store Pickup, 1-hour Delivery, and Same Day Refill services, along with holiday shopping deals on gifts, toys, and beauty items.
