MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Walmart says it will open 29 Supercenters in Canada over the next year and expand its distribution network in the country to support its growing e-commerce and food sales.
Walmart says it will open 29 Supercenters in Canada over the next year and expand its distribution network in the country to support its growing e-commerce and food sales.
Most of the Supercenters will be established by adding full grocery departments to existing stores. Two of the Supercenters will be built from scratch. Walmart added 35 Supercenters in Canada in its fiscal year ended January 31. It expects to have 309 Supercenters in Canada by the end of fiscal 2016.
Walmart’s expansion in Canada contrasts with recent struggles by other U.S. retailers, most notably Target Corp., which soon will close its 133 Canadian stores after sustaining about $2 billion in losses there in less than two years.
