Tony Rogers has been named chief marketing officer at Walmart.

Tony Rogers

Rogers, a 10-year company veteran who has been CMO of Walmart China for the past two years, succeeds Stephen Quinn, who is retiring.

In China, Rogers initially reported to Greg Foran, then chief executive officer of Walmart China and now CEO of Walmart U.S.

Rogers will start his new job in the middle of January. Quinn is retiring on January 31.

Rogers has spearheaded the drive for Walmart to devote more resources to multicultural marketing. Crucial to that, he said in 2012, is "making multicultural part of everything you do."

The appointment follows a report that Walmart is hiring Michael Francis, who spent nearly 27 years at Target Corp., as a marketing consultant. Francis is reportedly to initiate an overhaul of Walmart’s marketing department, working closely with Rogers.

Rogers formerly worked for Frito-Lay Inc., as did Quinn.
