BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart U.S. has promoted Labeed Diab to senior vice president and president of health and wellness. He succeeds Dr. John Agwunobi, who is leaving the company.
Walmart U.S. has promoted Labeed Diab to senior vice president and president of health and wellness. He succeeds Dr. John Agwunobi, who is leaving the company.

Diab most recently led Walmart’s Midwest Division as senior vice president. In that post he oversaw the successful move into an urban market with the opening of small-format concept stores throughout Chicago. His operations experience is matched by a solid background in health care, according to the company.
Diab began his career as a pharmacy manager at American Stores Co. (operator of the Jewel Osco/Savon Drugs chain), and he held regional and divisional operations roles at CVS Caremark Corp. and Rite Aid Corp. before joining Walmart in 2009 as director of operations.
"As a college student, I decided to pursue a career in pharmacy," Diab said. "Health care was my passion then, and it remains my passion today. With millions of customers shopping our stores every day, we have a responsibility to provide best-in-class health care for our customers. In this new role I look forward to going back to my days of educating customers and offering health care products and services that will help our customers live healthier lives."
In an e-mail announcement to Walmart home office associates, Walmart U.S. executive vice president and chief merchandising officer Duncan Mac Naughton said the health and wellness category is an important one for Walmart and its customers, and the company is committed to investing in its future growth.
"The passion and commitment to our customers Labeed has will ensure we continue to accelerate our health and wellness growth in the future," Mac Naughton said, "helping even more Americans get access to high-quality, innovative and affordable health care solutions."
Mac Naughton credited Agwunobi with leading the creation of health and wellness solutions at Walmart that have significantly lowered the cost of health care for millions of Americans.
"John joined Walmart in September 2007, and during his tenure he has helped make a difference on important issues that matter to our customers and associates," Mac Naughton said. "Now, as the face of health care in America continues to change, he’s looking forward to exploring and engaging in other areas in the field."
