Walmart unveils deep discounts, faster delivery and a Dr. Seuss twist for Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Walmart is betting that a mix of aggressive pricing, speed, and playful storytelling will resonate with consumers.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart on Monday provided more details about promotional plans for the upcoming holiday season. The retailer unveiled a slate of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals alongside a whimsical marketing twist: actor Walton Goggins will appear as the Grinch of “WhoKnewVille,” the retailer’s Dr. Seuss-inspired holiday setting.

Walmart announced thousands of discounts across categories from electronics to apparel to home goods, with markdowns beginning online at 12 a.m. ET on Nov. 25 and expanding into stores at 6 a.m. local time on Nov. 28. Walmart+ members will receive five hours of early online access starting Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. ET.

The company also offered an early look at Cyber Monday prices, which will go live at 12:01 a.m. ET on Dec. 1, with Walmart+ early access beginning the evening prior.

Cyber Monday Preview: Home, Tools and Fashion Headliners

Walmart said “thousands more deals” will be online-exclusive for Cyber Monday and emphasized the early-access benefit for Walmart+ members.

Speed as a Selling Point

Beyond pricing, Walmart is leaning heavily into convenience. The retailer said it can now deliver to 95% of U.S. households within three hours, offering its fastest Express Delivery speeds to date — as quick as four minutes in one instance.

Customers browsing the Walmart app or website can filter for “Pickup today” or “Delivery today” options, allowing them to schedule a rapid delivery or curbside pickup slot. Walmart described these capabilities as “the ultimate gift — speed, wrapped in joy.”

Walton Goggins Takes Center Stage as “The Grinch”

In a marketing move designed to blend nostalgia with digital convenience, Walmart confirmed that actor Walton Goggins will reprise his role from the retailer’s “Who Knew” fall campaign — this time as the Grinch of WhoKnewVille.

“When I got the invitation to go on this journey with Walmart, to step into the green, furry shoes of this iconic literary figure, it was a bit overwhelming,” Goggins said. “I’m excited to bring together Walmart's Black Friday Deals and Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch for the holidays. Is there a better combination? I don't think so.”

The retailer partnered with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to create WhoKnewVille, a vibrant, reimagined holiday town that offers a less chaotic alternative to traditional Black Friday shopping. The Walmart app serves as the organizing force for both “Whos” and customers alike.

A Multi-Channel Push Into Retail’s Biggest Week

The launch underscores Walmart’s escalating focus on early access, digital traffic and app-based shopping tools as the holiday season intensifies. With retailers jockeying for share in what is expected to be a heavily promotion-driven season, Walmart is betting that a mix of aggressive pricing, speed, and playful storytelling will resonate with consumers.
