DURHAM, N.C. — Wawa is expanding its electric vehicle charging infrastructure through a new partnership with EV charging network Ionna. The collaboration will bring “Rechargeries” to an undisclosed number of Wawa locations, starting with a site in Daytona Beach, Florida, which is set to open this week.
Additional Florida locations, including Bradenton, Pensacola, and Orlando, are expected to follow soon.
The agreement marks Ionna’s single largest EV charging commitment to date, though neither company has disclosed the full scope of the rollout. Wawa becomes the second major convenience chain to partner with Ionna, following Sheetz, which announced plans last year to install more than 50 Rechargeries across the Midwest and East Coast.
Each Wawa Rechargery site will feature 400 kW Genuine Charge Dispensers, capable of delivering high-speed charging to meet the increasing demand for faster, more convenient EV services.
Wawa currently operates EV chargers at more than 175 locations in partnership with networks like EVgo and Tesla. This new alliance with Ionna reflects the company’s continued push to modernize its fuel and energy offerings.
“We couldn't think of a better way to achieve a key milestone than reaching it with Wawa, a host that allows our drivers to charge with ease and in comfort, knowing they're being well cared for. Next week's opening of the IONNA Rechargery at Wawa in Daytona Beach will bring our total bay count to 212 live and 3,064 contracted. That is over 10% contracted to our 2030 live bay goal in just over a year,” said Seth Cutler, CEO of IONNA.
“With an ongoing commitment to providing our customers with speed and convenience, our new collaboration with IONNA does just that,” said Rich Makin, Chief Fuel Officer, Wawa. “As we continue to expand our EV services, we are thrilled to provide our customers with a one-stop for fresh food, beverages and EV charging!”
Wawa has not indicated whether the partnership will expand outside of Florida, but more details are expected in the coming months.
