Each new Wawa store invests over $7.5 million and creates about 35 jobs, says the company.

INDIANAPOLIS — Wawa opened its newest Indiana store in Brownsburg on September 18, marking the chain’s fifth location in the state as it accelerates its Midwest expansion. The new store, located at 60 E. Garner Rd., is part of Wawa’s long-term plan to establish as many as 60 sites across Indiana.

Each new Wawa store represents an investment of over $7.5 million and creates approximately 35 permanent jobs, according to the company. “We are grateful to the Indiana community for embracing us with open wings and are excited to continue our expansion to serve more communities statewide,” said Joe Collins, director of store operations at Wawa, speaking to local news outlet WISHTV.

More Stores Coming This Month

Wawa also confirmed opening dates for additional stores in Greenfield and Westfield this September.

  • Greenfield: 5980 Memory Ln., opening Friday, Sept. 19. Ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m.
  • Westfield: 393 W. Tournament Trl., opening Wednesday, Sept. 24. Ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m.

Grand openings will feature community initiatives, including Wawa’s “Hoagies for Heroes” program, which honors local first responders and other everyday heroes.

A Broader Growth Push

The company plans to open up to 10 Indiana stores in 2025, followed by 8 to 12 new locations annually. In total, the expansion is expected to create roughly 2,000 new, long-term jobs statewide.

Wawa’s rapid build-out mirrors growth in other markets. In Pennsylvania, the company recently detailed plans to open 10 stores in Centre County within five years, an area long dominated by competitor Sheetz. Similar to its Indiana rollout, each Pennsylvania store requires a significant investment and a substantial workforce commitment.

Competitors Expanding Too

Wawa’s Midwest push comes as rivals continue to grow nationwide. QuikTrip recently partnered with the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma to develop a new store in Miami, Oklahoma, while Maverik just opened a location in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Other brands, such as Love’s, ampm, and Rutter’s, are also advancing new builds and remodels across their respective regions.

For Brownsburg and beyond, Wawa is betting that its signature hoagies, fresh coffee, and community-centered approach will win over Indiana consumers as the chain deepens its footprint in the Midwest.
