DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens says it is the first community pharmacy to accept a broad array of Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online. Eligible members can now shop from a catalog of approximately 1,700 Shop Eligible Products via Walgreens.com and the Walgreens app. Consumers have been able to shop using their Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits in stores since 2019, according to the company, which said the new digital shopping solutions bring even greater convenience.

“As a health and wellbeing destination for everyone, Walgreens is always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience with solutions for every shopper,” said Tracey Brown, EVP, President, Walgreens Retail and Chief Customer Officer. “Accepting Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online and on the Walgreens app improves shopping solutions for those who are homebound, have limited mobility or are simply short on time.”

This new offering builds on Walgreen’s commitment to accessible care by providing additional digital health and well-being offerings, including 30-minute Pickup and 1-hour Delivery of retail products, Same-Day Prescription Delivery, Walgreens Rx Savings Finder, Walgreens Virtual Healthcare, Seniors Day held every first Tuesday of the month and more.

Who Is Eligible

Walgreens accepts Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online from numerous well-known providers. Customers may check eligibility by visiting their Medicare Advantage plan website. Customers may also call the number on the back of their Medicare Advantage card to determine if their supplemental benefits are eligible online through Walgreens.

Medicare Advantage members can browse for products eligible under their plan on the retailer’s dedicated OTC landing page. Members will see a list of eligible items associated with their plan along with common eligible OTC items across multiple plans.
Members can purchase OTC-eligible items, including Walgreens brands items like 12-Hour Mucus Relief DM Extended-Release Tablets, Pulse Oximeter with Respiratory Rate, Arthritis Pain Relieving Gel, and Ultra Probiotic Capsules by inputting their Medicare Advantage card numbers as their first form of payment. Eligible OTC products will be paid for using their available card funds. (Members must use another form of payment for items outside of their OTC supplemental benefits.)

Medicare Advantage Plan members can also participate in Walgreens Seniors Day, where patients 55 and older and their caregivers can save 20% off eligible regular-priced merchandise on the first Tuesday of every month or online all week with code SENIOR20 at checkout.
