ROCHESTER, N.Y– During the fall 2025 Check Out Hunger scanning campaign, Wegmans customers raised nearly $3.1 million for hunger relief at the company’s 114 stores. This campaign, which ran from October 22 to November 29, allowed customers to donate any amount at checkout with 100 percent of the proceeds going to each store's local Feeding America food bank partner.
“This year, the Check Out Hunger campaign proved especially vital, arriving at a critical moment when our food bank partners faced a surge in demand caused by the government shutdown and suspension of SNAP benefits,” said Deana Percassi, Wegmans vice president of community engagement and communications. “We are deeply grateful to our customers and employees, who donated so generously for their neighbors in need during this campaign.”
A Record-Breaking Year
The 2025 companywide campaign raised the third highest amount in the history of Check Out Hunger. Below are some highlights from this year:
- Companywide, customers donated $570,000 more than in 2024.
- Every division saw an increase in donations year over year, with 25 Wegmans stores raising record amounts during the campaign.
- The Rochester division reached a record high, exceeding their goal by more than $120,000.
- The Syracuse division also had a record year, nearly doubling the amount raised in 2024.
Across the Northeast, Wegmans’ stores shared heartwarming stories from the campaign. At the Lyell Avenue store in Rochester, a single customer donated $2,000 across multiple visits. The Tysons Corner, Virginia store reached their goal 19 days early and nearly tripled the amount raised in 2024. The Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania and Woodbridge, New Jersey stores both received $500 cash donations from local customers to help support their communities.
Wegmans food bank partners expressed their gratitude to customers and employees for making the 2025 campaign a success:
“On behalf of Worcester County Food Bank, I thank you, Wegmans, and Wegmans generous customers for your loyal support. Everything WCFB does is only possible because of the incredible support we receive from the people, businesses, and foundations of Worcester County.” - Worcester County Food Bank
“I am a shopper of both the Nazareth and Bethlehem stores. The handful of times that I used a check out with a cashier, they made a personal ask if I would be interested in contributing to the Check Out Hunger campaign…It means so much to me to know it is not just a flyer in the store, but the staff are taking the time to ask. I wanted to send my kudos to both teams for making our mission part of their mission as well.” - Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania
“We are so incredibly grateful for everything the Wegmans team is doing to support Food for Others and to fight food insecurity across our community. With so much happening right now, the need is greater than ever, and Wegmans continues to show up in so many meaningful ways.” - Food for Others
