Wegmans donates $30,000 Powerball bonus to NJ food bank

Wegmans is donating its $30,000 Powerball retailer bonus to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey to provide 25,000 meals through its Check Out Hunger campaign.

MONTVALE, N.J. — After selling a winning $847 million Powerball ticket at its Montvale store, Wegmans Food Markets is donating its $30,000 retailer bonus from the New Jersey Lottery to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

The donation, made through Wegmans’ annual Check Out Hunger campaign, will help provide an estimated 25,000 meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity statewide.

“We couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate this incredibly lucky moment for our Montvale store and community,” said store manager Nick Tassi. “We’re grateful to receive the $30,000 retailer bonus from the New Jersey Lottery, and we’re excited to donate the full amount through our Check Out Hunger campaign, helping turn one lucky moment into something that benefits thousands of our neighbors.”

The contribution comes as Wegmans conducts its 33rd annual Check Out Hunger campaign, allowing customers to donate to local food banks at checkout. At the Montvale location, all customer contributions benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Since the campaign launched, Wegmans customers across the retailer’s stores have contributed nearly $58 million to hunger-relief efforts.

The retailer said the Powerball win presented an opportunity to extend the celebration beyond the ticket holder and to support the broader community.
