Whole Foods Market Inc. has enacted responsible packaging guidelines for all of its body care and supplement suppliers, numbering more than 2,100, and has adopted post-consumer recycled (PCR) content bottles for several private label supplements and body care products.

The grocer began developing the guidelines in concert with 25 of its largest personal care suppliers in 2008.

The guidelines mandate the reduction of plastic use in packaging, encourage the use of glass instead when possible and limit acceptable packaging materials to those that are easily reused or recycled and/or feature the highest percentage of PCR content.
