Whole Foods Market Inc. announced June 11 that its second store brand will be called 365 by Whole Foods Market, and that 20-year company veteran Jeff Turnas will lead the unit, which is based at the company’s headquarters here.
The first 365 store will open in the first half of next year, although the company hasn’t yet said where.
The concept, which had been announced earlier, is designed to offer convenience and everyday-low prices on natural and organic products, grocery staples, fresh produce and prepared food.
365 Everyday Value is Whole Foods’ private label brand.
Turnas has held several top jobs at Whole Foods, including president of its U.K. region for the past six years. Earlier, he was president of the company’s North Atlantic region.
The new concept will take Whole Foods into new communities, Turnas says, and offer a shopping experience that is "fun and convenient."
"A modern, streamlined design with innovative technology and a carefully curated product mix will offer an efficient and rewarding way to grocery shop," Turnas adds.
The company says the 365 stores will be complementary to Whole Foods stores, with some shoppers making a quick trip to a 365 store midweek and a larger stock-up trip to a Whole Foods store on the weekend.
The Whole Foods chain includes 421 U.S. stores. The company plans to increase that count to 1,200 stores.
