DENVER — Aldi is moving ahead with its long-planned entry into Colorado, filing permits for two Denver-area stores as part of a broader expansion that will add 50 locations to the state over the next two years.
According to the Denver Permitting and Licensing Center, permit applications were filed on July 1 for stores at 18453 E. 57th Ave. and 9111 E. 40th Ave. These projects mark some of the first visible steps in Aldi’s expansion into the Colorado market.
The German discount grocer announced earlier this year that it plans to open 50 stores in the Denver and Colorado Springs markets over the next two years. The expansion will be supported by a new regional distribution center, which the company says will create hundreds of jobs.
Aldi’s Colorado growth is part of a broader national expansion strategy. The retailer plans to open 180 stores in 31 states in 2026 as it marks its 50th year in the U.S.
“One in three U.S. households shopped at ALDI this past year, and in 2026 we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first,” said Atty McGrath, CEO of Aldi U.S. “That means bringing ALDI to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love.”
Known for its streamlined operating model, Aldi keeps prices low through practices such as private-label merchandising, simplified store layouts, shoppers bagging their own groceries, and its quarter-deposit shopping cart system.
In addition to expanding its store footprint, Aldi is investing in digital capabilities. The company is enhancing its website with features such as personalized reorder recommendations, expanded nutrition information, shoppable recipes, meal-planning tools, and improved product search to help customers plan shopping trips more efficiently.
