SEATTLE — Amazon said it will hire more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time, and full-time employees across its U.S. operations for the holiday season, while expanding healthcare benefits for eligible seasonal workers.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours per week will be eligible for healthcare coverage on their first day of work. Plans will start at $5 per week with $5 copays, according to the company. Eligible seasonal employees hired before Jan. 1 will gain access to coverage on that date.
The hiring push comes as Amazon invests more than $1.5 billion in higher pay for its U.S. core operations workforce. Seasonal employees earn an average of $20 per hour, while full-time core operations employees start at $20 per hour. Average hourly pay across the workforce is nearly $24, and Amazon said average total compensation for full-time employees exceeds $32 per hour when benefits are included.
Amazon has also expanded employee discounts. U.S. employees now have access to an uncapped 10% discount on eligible groceries and everyday essentials purchased online through Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market, as well as an uncapped 20% discount at Whole Foods Market stores.
Another new benefit, Day 1 Financial, will provide qualified employees and their families with access to banking services through First Tech Federal Credit Union. The program will roll out in late 2026 and is expected to be broadly available in 2027.
“Our employees are at the heart of everything we do,” said J. Ofori Agboka, vice president of People Experience and Technology, Global Operations at Amazon. “These investments reflect our continued commitment to making Amazon a place where people can earn, learn, and create opportunities for themselves and their families.”
Other benefits available to eligible employees include a Prime membership, prepaid tuition through Career Choice of up to $5,250 per year, a 401(k) with a company match, paid parental leave, and mental health support.
Amazon said it will post new positions weekly from October through December.
