As senior vice president of East Business Unit store operations at Walmart, Annie Walker leads more than 800 locations and over 200,000 associates on the Eastern seaboard. But the scale of her responsibilities doesn’t prevent her from prioritizing people — associates as well as customers.
Acting on the belief that the store remains Walmart’s greatest strength, Walker spends meaningful time in the field listening to associates, learning from their ideas, and reinforcing a culture of accountability and encouragement. “The best ideas come from our associates,” she said. “Innovation stems from our people, and I see that every time I’m in the stores.”
With more than 23 years at Walmart, Walker’s career spans merchandising, supply chain engineering and store operations. She began in 2002 as an industrial engineer and steadily advanced through leadership roles across replenishment, merchandise execution and general merchandise operations before moving into operations.
Under her direction, the East Business Unit continues to deliver strong performance while advancing digital integration across the store network. Walker understands that stores power both the in-store and digital customer experience, and she works to ensure her teams are equipped to succeed in an increasingly connected retail environment.
She fully embraces Walmart’s people-led, tech-powered strategy and brings it to life in her work each day. Walker champions the culture established by company founder Sam Walton, leading with energy, purpose and the belief that strong results come from building strong teams.
Walker asserts that success is measured by the growth of associates, the strength of teams and the impact stores make in their communities.
