Dollar General rolls out summer ‘surprise and delight’ assortments

Seasonal collections feature island-inspired entertaining products, dorm décor and budget-friendly pricing.

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General is leaning further into trend-driven discretionary merchandise this summer, rolling out a wave of limited-time lifestyle collections and exclusive snack products as the discount retailer looks to turn bargain shoppers into repeat treasure-hunt customers.

Beginning May 17, the discount retailer will introduce a series of “surprise and delight” summer collections across thousands of stores, building on the momentum of recent celebrity-driven collaborations tied to country music icons Dolly Parton and Holly Williams.

The summer assortment reflects the retailer’s continued push into trend-forward, value-oriented discretionary merchandise as it looks to deepen customer engagement beyond consumables.

“From patio-ready entertaining essentials to graduation gift ideas, and even a few exclusive food and beverage treats, celebrations can be budget-friendly with help from Dollar General,” said Johanna Blankush, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of non-consumables at Dollar General.

Among the featured launches is a new Margaritaville-themed collection that will be available in approximately 16,500 stores. The 18-piece assortment includes items such as floating speakers, cooler bags, margarita glasses and novelty salt-and-pepper shaker sets inspired by the brand’s beach lifestyle aesthetic. Nearly two-thirds of the items are priced at $3 or less.

The retailer is also expanding its Dolly’s Heart and Home line with a new summer cabana-themed collection that will be offered in roughly half of Dollar General’s more than 21,000 stores. The assortment includes more than 35 products spanning home décor, kitchenware and entertaining items, featuring bright colors and floral and butterfly motifs associated with Parton’s brand.

New additions include citronella candles, lanterns with LED candles and outdoor games such as paddle ball sets. Prices range from $1 to $12.

Dollar General is also launching a new “Denim and Daisies” collection focused on dorm, apartment and budget-conscious home refresh needs. The assortment spans housewares, décor, apparel and storage products, with approximately 65% of items priced at $5 or less.

Products include mini refrigerators, lap desks, rugs, blankets, desktop vacuums and sleepwear, as well as novelty accessories such as straw toppers and charm-decorated clogs.

The collections complement Dollar General’s broader seasonal décor strategy, which also includes a patriotic-themed housewares assortment timed to summer holidays.

In addition to general merchandise, the retailer is expanding its seasonal consumables lineup with exclusive beverage mixes, frozen treats and snack items aimed at summer shoppers.

New products include Wyler’s Italian Ice Tropical Freezer Bars, Wyler’s Light Drink Sticks in Rainbow Sherbet flavor and Pure Kick drink sticks in Strawberry Banana Watermelon flavor. Dollar General said it is offering more than 40 seasonal beverage and freezer items for summer, with all products priced below $5 and roughly two-thirds priced at $2 or less.

Additional seasonal snack offerings include Pringles BBQ Rib flavored chips, Cheez-It Cheddar Jack crackers, Mentos Peach Rolls and the return of M&M’s Orange Vanilla Crème candies.

The expanded seasonal push comes as discount retailers increasingly lean on limited-time merchandise, licensed collections and affordable home décor to drive discretionary spending and encourage repeat visits from value-focused consumers.
