Duracell Smart Power is expanding its myGrid line of cordless chargers with kits that allow consumers to wirelessly recharge the latest smart phones, including devices from Apple Co.

The myGrid system consists of a charging pad that is plugged into an electrical outlet. Once consumers outfit their device with the appropriate "Power Sleeve" or "Power Clip," they can charge it by laying it on the pad, rather than by plugging in a cord.

"Consumers today want a simpler way of charging the devices that are vital to their day-to-day lives. With new devices being introduced at a rapid pace, we’re bringing consumers new innovations to help realize their personal power needs," said Rick June, Duracell vice president and general manager of North America.

The latest version of the device can accommodate Apple products, including the iPhone, as well as smart phones that use micro-USB ports.

Duracell, a division of Procter & Gamble Co., cites market research done for the Wireless Power Consortium as indicating demand for the product. The study found that 80% of consumers said they would be interested in the ability to charge their devices wirelessly.
