This morning John Furner, Walmart’s new president and CEO, kicked off activities for members of the media during the company’s annual Associates Week by engaging in a fireside chat with reporters. Centered on the theme Making a Difference That Matters, the week is designed to put the spotlight on how associates at all levels of the company are upping their game as they meet the needs of Walmart customers and Sam’s Club members, and help redefine the company.
It will also give the media an opportunity to hear from Walmart’s reconfigured leadership team, which in addition to Furner – who succeeded Doug McMillon as CEO earlier this year – includes the CEOs of its primary business units: David Guggina at Walmart U.S., Latriece Watkins at Sam’s Club, and Chris Nicholas at Walmart International.
Illuminating what he calls a new era in retail, Furner spoke about the importance of technology to Walmart's business, and why it is critical that the company maintains its "learning culture." He also emphasized that associates will remain central to Walmart's success.
