ORLANDO, Fla. — The Global Market Development Center presented the GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award this weekend to Lou Martire, vice president of trade development at Energizer Household Products, for his contributions to the industry.

The Global Market Development Center presented the GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award this weekend to Lou Martire, vice president of trade development at Energizer Household Products, for his contributions to the industry.

GMDC said Martire received the award on Saturday evening at its 2014 Health Beauty Wellness Marketing Conference.

In the awards presentation, the trade association played a 15-minute video that featured congratulations from Martire’s industry peers and family members.

"This award was developed to honor and acknowledge people who make a real difference in our industry. They’re just very, very special people," commented David McConnell, GMDC president and chief executive officer.

"This year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award is multifaceted, passionate and intelligent. He’s a great businessperson. He cares about trying to help others, whether it’s trying to help build your business or just help you be a better person," said McConnell.

GMDC cited Martire’s long career at Energizer. He began working for the company at age 22 upon graduating from Rutgers University.

"Lou’s tenure with Energizer is pretty amazing. Forty-plus years is pretty incredible in today’s world where people move around," McConnell stated. "He was able to transition as the company transitioned — going from being a battery company to a household company and a personal care company, he never missed a beat."

Also recognized at the event were the most recent Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, former Unilever executive Jerry Brown (2012) and Pharmavite’s Skip Aldridge (2013).

GMDC’s Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 1994 to recognized individuals who have made major contributions to mass market retailing with a focus on general merchandise and health, beauty and wellness categories. The award recipients represent a cross-section of industry leaders, including wholesalers and retailers, suppliers, trade press representatives and association executives.
