CORNELIUS, N.C. — Greer’s Markets will test an artificial intelligence platform from Alpha Modus Holdings Inc. that is designed to connect data from existing store systems and identify ways to improve operations.
The six-month beta program will cover three Greer’s grocery stores in Alabama. After the evaluation, the companies will assess a potential expansion across the retailer’s remaining locations, with the broader network anticipated to include up to 29 stores.
The agreement will give Alpha Modus the opportunity to evaluate its Adaptive Retail Intelligence Architecture, or ARIA, under actual grocery operating conditions as it works toward broader commercialization.
The platform is expected to analyze available historical and live information from sources including store cameras, point-of-sale transactions, inventory and ordering records, pricing and promotions, product information, store layouts, and shrink and waste data.
By connecting information held in separate systems, ARIA is designed to identify patterns, flag operational inefficiencies and generate recommendations. Alpha Modus said the technology is intended to work as much as possible with retailers’ existing infrastructure, limiting the need to replace established systems.
“The grocery industry operates on extraordinarily complex relationships among inventory, pricing, consumer behavior, labor, and merchandising,” said Sasha Asgary, chief strategy officer of Alpha Modus Holdings. “Much of the intelligence necessary to optimize those relationships already exists within retailers’ own systems. ARIA is designed to connect that information, understand it, and transform it into intelligence that can drive better business decisions.”
Beyond evaluating the platform’s performance at Greer’s, Alpha Modus plans to use the trial to refine grocery-specific AI models, expand ARIA’s proprietary knowledge base and establish standardized onboarding and operating procedures. The company also intends to develop commercial pricing and deployment frameworks for grocery retailers.
Under the agreement, Alpha Modus will retain ownership of ARIA and its underlying technology, models, knowledge base, deployment methods and improvements developed during the program. Greer’s, which operates as Autry Greer & Sons Inc., will retain ownership of its proprietary operational data.
The companies were introduced through Alpha Modus’ relationship with Circle the Wagons, which works with independent grocery retailers.
“What makes this particularly exciting is that we are moving beyond theoretical applications of artificial intelligence and into real operating environments where its capabilities can be evaluated and refined,” said Barton Howard, chief executive officer of Circle the Wagons.
Alpha Modus focuses on AI applications for physical retail, including in-store shopper engagement and attribution. The Greer’s trial is intended to help the company establish a deployment model that can be used with other grocery operators.
