Harris Teeter associates volunteer across seven markets

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Harris Teeter associates are mobilizing across seven markets to support local communities during National Volunteer Week, with efforts focused on hunger relief, food distribution and community support.

Throughout the week, employees known internally as “volunTeeters” are participating in service projects across North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Washington, D.C., partnering with nonprofit organizations to pack meals, sort produce and stock community food shares. The initiative underscores the retailer’s ongoing emphasis on food insecurity and neighborhood engagement beyond store operations.

“At Harris Teeter, we believe that being a neighborhood market means more than what happens inside our stores. National Volunteer Week is a reminder that our associates are neighbors first — and watching them show up across seven markets to pack meals, distribute produce and support the organizations serving their communities is exactly what ‘in food with love’ looks like in action,” said Danna Robinson.

Volunteer efforts are taking place in key markets including Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham and Wilmington, N.C.; Charleston, S.C.; Greenville, N.C.; Baltimore; and Washington, D.C., with partners such as Capital Area Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank and Lowcountry Food Bank.

The campaign reflects a broader industry trend of grocers deepening community ties through hands-on volunteerism, particularly around food access, while reinforcing brand positioning at the local level.

A subsidiary of The Kroger Co., Harris Teeter operates more than 250 stores and 85 fuel centers across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and employs approximately 36,000 associates.
