Instacart partners with WellTheory to enhance autoimmune food access

The partnership offers about 300,000 eligible members grocery stipends for approved anti-inflammatory foods via Instacart’s network.

SAN FRANCISCO — WellTheory, a prominent platform specializing in holistic care for autoimmune diseases, has collaborated with Instacart to improve access to nutritious, anti-inflammatory foods and help lower care expenses for patients with complex autoimmune conditions.

The collaboration integrates Instacart Health Fresh Funds into WellTheory’s evidence-based care model, providing roughly 300,000 eligible members with grocery stipends to buy clinically recommended foods from local retailers on Instacart. The grocery technology platform reaches over 98% of U.S. households, including 95% of those in food deserts and nearly 98% of households enrolled in SNAP.

“Nutrition is at the core of WellTheory’s mission to reverse the autoimmune epidemic, yet patients face real obstacles in translating clinical nutrition guidance into their daily lives,” said Claire Rudolph, co-founder and head of product at WellTheory. “Our partnership with Instacart removes these barriers, making it easier for our members to follow evidence-based dietary protocols and truly nourish their healing journeys.”

WellTheory’s platform moves away from traditional symptom-focused methods by addressing the root causes of autoimmunity through nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, and personalized support from registered dietitians and board-certified health coaches.

Instacart stated that the partnership reflects its increasing efforts to incorporate food-as-medicine tools into clinical care pathways.

“At Instacart, we believe food is one of the most powerful tools to support better health,” said Sarah Mastrorocco, vice president and general manager of Health at Instacart. “We’re helping partners like WellTheory integrate nutrition directly into patient care by making it easier for patients to access the right foods to support their health from the comfort of home.”

The partnership builds on WellTheory’s recently reported results, which show significant improvements in autoimmune symptoms and quality of life among members using its proprietary, food-first care model. The company collaborates with employers and health plans, including Maven Clinic and Sentara, to provide virtual, whole-person autoimmune care.
