NEW YORK —According to reports in Newsday, Islandia has cleared a key legal obstacle for a proposed Trader Joe’s distribution center by lifting decades‑old restrictions on the property, which previously served as the headquarters for Computer Associates.
Construction is already progressing on the approximately 66‑acre site located at the southwest corner of Motor Parkway and Bedford Avenue, just west of Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino.
Trader Joe’s purchased the property last August for $118.6 million and plans to convert it into a distribution hub supporting 13 of its metro-area stores, as previously reported by Newsday. The Islandia village board approved the design for the 922,084‑square‑foot facility in July.
