MINNEAPOLIS — For more than two decades, Kiera Fernandez has been a driving force at Target, building a career rooted in leadership, belonging and impact. Now, as the company’s executive vice president and chief community impact and equity officer, she is leading efforts to strengthen Target’s connection to the communities it serves.
“Target’s commitment to communities has been at the heart of our company’s purpose since our founding more than 120 years ago,” Fernandez said. “Our focus is to ensure every Target team member, guest and community member has access to opportunity and growth.”
Her role encompasses a wide range of initiatives, from philanthropy and volunteerism to stakeholder engagement and Target’s Belonging at the Bullseye strategy. Under her leadership, the company’s community impact and belonging efforts are fueled by its most valuable resource — its people.
Fernandez’s passion for service stems from her own career journey. She started at Target nearly 25 years ago as a store leader in Arizona and quickly recognized the company’s deep commitment to its team and neighborhoods. That sense of purpose has driven her throughout her career, spanning human resources, retail operations and global supply chain leadership. Now, she finds the most rewarding part of her job to be the powerful combination of Target’s team members and its commitment to making a difference. “Every day, our team members step up to make our neighborhoods better places to live and work,” she said. “Last year, our team collectively volunteered 1 million hours — just one reason I couldn’t be prouder of our lasting impact.”
