Kroger shuts down Kroger Ship

Launched in 2018, Kroger Ship initially allowed customers to order groceries online for home delivery.

CINCINATTI, Ohio — Kroger has quietly ended operations of its direct-to-consumer online marketplace, Kroger Ship. The service delivered groceries and general merchandise from third-party sellers. The retailer confirmed the shutdown on its website, noting that it ceased operations in March 2025.

A notice on Kroger’s FAQ page confirmed the closure, though a direct link to the main announcement no longer works. The company did not provide a reason for discontinuing the service, and a spokesperson had not responded to a request for comment as of publication. Grocery Dive first reported the development on May 13.

The FAQ page states that eligible returns will be honored.

Launched in 2018, Kroger Ship initially allowed customers to order groceries online for home delivery. The platform expanded in 2020 to include third-party goods such as housewares, toys, and seasonal items. By 2022, Kroger also offered merchandise from Bed Bath & Beyond and Buybuy Baby through the service.

Ship-to-home services like Kroger Ship have fallen out of favor compared to pickup and delivery options. Despite Kroger Ship's shutdown, the grocer emphasized that customers can continue shopping online through its delivery and pickup channels.
