Maverik rolls out Piston’s cardless fueling at 800+ sites

With Piston, drivers initiate transactions via secure QR or authorization codes, eliminating physical card workflows.

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Piston, a cardless payments platform for fleets and fuel retailers, has partnered with Maverik – Adventure’s First Stop to roll out its technology across more than 825 convenience store locations in 21 states. The deployment introduces a faster and more secure fueling option for commercial fleets, while streamlining operations for merchants.

With Piston, drivers initiate transactions via secure QR or authorization codes, eliminating physical card workflows. The system provides real-time fraud prevention, digital receipts, and enhanced visibility into driver activity and vehicle usage, reducing administrative burdens for fleet managers.

“Fueling hasn’t changed in decades, and plastic cards were never designed for the way fleets operate today,” said Vikram Sekhon, Co-founder & CEO of Piston. "By verifying drivers and vehicles in real time, we close the door on fraud while giving fleets and merchants the transparency and control they’ve been missing. This is what modern, digital fueling looks like at scale, and we’re proud to work with Maverik to set a new standard for the industry.”

The nationwide rollout marks one of the largest cardless fueling deployments in the U.S. Maverik, already known as a fueling innovator, sees the partnership as a way to strengthen its connected and secure fueling experience.

“We are pleased to have Piston as a method-of-payment that we offer,” said Kerby Cate, Sr. Director of Fuel Sales at Maverik.

Piston will support onboarding to ensure a smooth launch for fleets. The move positions the company as a leader in modernizing fleet payments while reinforcing Maverik’s reputation for technology-forward convenience retailing.
