GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer said Monday it will discount a rotating lineup of more than 1,000 popular grocery items through September 8, part of what the Midwest retailer is framing as a thank-you to loyal shoppers as summer winds down.
The promotion spans hundreds of product categories, including meat, produce, snacks, cereal, and household goods. A handful of items will carry the discount for the full six weeks, among them whole pork shoulder butt roast (down to $1.79 a pound from $2.99), family pack chicken drumsticks ($0.99 a pound from $1.39), strawberries ($2.50 from $2.99), seedless watermelon ($4.99 from $8.99), Meijer-brand toilet paper ($10.49 from $13.99), Kellogg's Frosted Flakes ($2.99 from $4.29), and Vlasic pickles ($2.50 from $3.49).
"Midwesterners work hard for their money, and we believe they shouldn't have to work equally as hard to save money on their groceries," said Don Sanderson, Meijer's chief merchandising and marketing officer, in a statement. "We're proud of the value we offer customers 365 days a year and this is our way of saying thank you as families make the most of the last few weeks of summer."
The discounts are applied automatically — in stores, on Meijer.com, and in the retailer's app — with no coupons or loyalty sign-up required. Shoppers can take advantage through in-store visits, pickup, or home delivery.
The company points to the promotion as an extension of a broader value push. Meijer holds the top spot in the Midwest in the American Customer Satisfaction Index for frequency of sales and promotions and for store convenience. Its private-label Meijer brand has also been a focus this year: a running calendar of discounts on Meijer-brand essentials has saved customers $2.5 million so far in 2026, a pace the company says will extend into the holiday season with additional markdowns planned.
Meijer operates more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets, and express locations across the Midwest, employing more than 70,000 people. The privately held, family-operated company says it donates at least 6 percent of its profit to community causes annually.
