PITTSBURGH — GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare North America has named Colin Mackenzie as its new president.
GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare North America has named Colin Mackenzie as its new president.
Mackenzie replaces Roger Scarlett-Smith, who is relocating to London to become president of GSK Consumer Healthcare Europe, according to GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The GSK Consumer Healthcare North America business is based in Moon Township, Pa.
Mackenzie has been directing the U.S. oral care business since 2007 and has transformed it into one of GSK Consumer Healthcare’s "biggest global success stories," according to the company. Under his leadership, the business has boosted its net sales growth rate, acquired leading dry-mouth product Biotene in 2008 and claimed the No. 1 toothpaste SKU in the United States with Sensodyne Extra Whitening, the company said.
Before leading the oral care business, Mackenzie was vice president and general manager for the Central and Eastern Europe region. He also held global positions as vice president of the Aquafresh Future Team and vice president of strategic advertising and marketing leadership while based in the United Kingdom.
"Colin has demonstrated knowledge of the business and a commitment to implementing new, innovative ways to drive growth," John Clarke, president of GSK Consumer Healthcare, said in a statement. "His transformation of the oral care business in North America is just one example of his ability to lead, inspire and empower, and I’m looking forward to the impact he will make in this new challenging role."
Scarlett-Smith had served as president of GSK Consumer Healthcare North America since 2008. The company said his experience in enterprise leadership, business turnaround and high’performance culture development transformed the North American business by building capabilities in customer and expert marketing, refining core processes and refocusing investment in brands. Before moving to Pittsburgh, Scarlett-Smith spent four years leading GSK’s Consumer Healthcare business in the United Kingdom.
