When H-E-B announced in September 2025 that Roxanne Orsak would become president effective January 2026, it marked both a leadership transition and a historic milestone. Orsak — a 37-year company veteran — is the first woman to hold the title in the company’s 120-year history, a fitting tribute to a retailer founded in 1905 by pioneering entrepreneur Florence Butt.

Orsak succeeds Craig Boyan, who will retire at the end of 2026 after two decades of leadership, transitioning to a senior advisor role and continuing to serve on the board. In her expanded role as president and chief operating officer, Orsak reports to chief executive officer Howard Butt III.

“Roxanne is the natural choice to serve as H-E-B’s next president,” Butt said. “She has a deep understanding of our business, which she honed from a broad range of leadership roles at H-E-B during her 37-year tenure. Roxanne leads by example, embodies our culture, and recognizes the unique contributions of each partner.”

A graduate with honors in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University, Orsak also completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program and the University of Southern California’s Food Industry Management Program.

She began her career in 1988 as a store management trainee, rising through store operations, merchandising, procurement and format design. She helped launch the H-E-B Plus! format in 2004 and Joe V’s Smart Shop in 2010, reinforcing the company’s reputation for innovation.

“Throughout my time at H-E-B, our amazing partners and leaders have inspired me to be my very best,” Orsak said.
