Sam’s Club adds same-day refrigerated prescription delivery

The new service underscores the club’s growing role in retail healthcare and its competitive value for Plus Members.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club is expanding its health care and wellness capabilities with the launch of same-day delivery for refrigerated prescriptions, including GLP-1 medications, insulin and other temperature-sensitive drugs. The service is free for Plus Members and represents another step in the retailer’s effort to position its pharmacies as a cornerstone of membership value.

The initiative comes as major retailers race to integrate health and wellness into their omnichannel models. By combining low-cost access to high-demand medications with its nationwide pharmacy footprint, Sam’s Club aims to further enhance its competitive advantage in convenience and affordability.

“Expanding same-day delivery to include refrigerated and specialty medications shows how we’re blending innovation with trusted pharmacy service,” said Matt Holt, vice president, Healthcare Operations at Sam’s Club. “Our pharmacists are central to that experience, ensuring members receive both care and convenience.”

Competing on access, value and convenience

The service covers a wide range of refrigerated prescriptions, including GLP-1 therapies such as Wegovy and Ozempic. Sam’s Club now offers these medications to eligible members for $499 per month through manufacturer copay programs, matching pricing at Costco and other large retailers.

By incorporating cold-chain delivery logistics, Sam’s Club expands its omnichannel capabilities into an area traditionally reserved for specialty pharmacies. Orders placed by 2 p.m. qualify for same-day delivery, ensuring temperature-controlled delivery from the pharmacy to your doorstep.

Club and non-members can access the service for a $12 fee, while Plus Members continue to receive free delivery on most prescriptions.

Strengthening the pharmacy’s role in membership

With 570 pharmacy locations and more than 3,500 pharmacists and technicians nationwide, Sam’s Club is leveraging its scale to deepen engagement across its membership tiers. The retailer offers 10 common generic prescriptions at no cost and over 600 medications priced at $10 or less, reinforcing pharmacy care as a key loyalty driver.

The company’s pharmacies also provide immunizations, health screenings, and nutrition consultations, connecting medication management with broader wellness programs. Through its integrated in-club model, Sam’s Club offers members hearing, vision and vaccination services alongside groceries and general merchandise — an ecosystem approach that continues to distinguish it in the club retail segment.

Competing in a shifting health retail landscape

Sam’s Club’s latest investment reflects how mass merchants are reimagining health care delivery within retail environments. Rivals including Walmart, Costco and CVS Health are expanding their own pharmacy capabilities, yet Sam’s Club’s membership-driven pricing and service model offers a unique point of differentiation.

As consumer expectations shift toward speed, transparency, and affordability, Sam’s Club is positioning itself as a leading player in the evolution of retail healthcare — where pharmacy services, fulfillment technology, and membership benefits converge.
