GREEN BAY, Wis. — Shopko Stores Operating Co. has remodeled its 133 stores to improve customer access to its jewelry offerings and expand its selection of active apparel.

Shopko Stores Operating Co. has remodeled its 133 stores to improve customer access to its jewelry offerings and expand its selection of active apparel.

The store upgrades were to be unveiled September 18.

"We are confident our customers are going to love this change to our stores," says Jill Soltau, Shopko’s president and chief merchandising officer. "Our jewelry selection will be much easier to browse and experiment with. And with jewelry playing a key role in individualizing and completing their look, that convenience and access — combined with a new expanded selection of on-trend pieces — will be a big plus for our customers."

A key feature of the remodel is the removal of large glass jewelry cabinets, making it easier for shoppers to see, touch and try on jewelry without waiting for a store associate to unlock the cabinet. The move also makes room for an expanded assortment of fashion jewelry.

Expansion of its women’s apparel department allows for a greater selection of misses and plus-size active wear and outerwear and swimwear assortments, categories that Shopko says have seen significant growth.

"The ‘athleisure’ trend is changing the way American women are dressing," Soltau says, "making it necessary to expand our product assortment to ensure we are providing a wide array of options for consumers. Our expanded assortment will feature something for everyone."

Additionally, Shopko says the expansion allows for more prominent display of its exclusive Energy Zone active wear, which is sold alongside active wear from such brands as Nike, Puma and Adidas.

In addition to its 133 Shopko stores, the retailer operates five Shopko Express Rx stores, five Shopko Pharmacy locations and 177 Shopko Hometown stores, which are discount stores designed for smaller communities.
