SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion has made what it says are significant investments in 169 stores across North Carolina and South Carolina.

Food Lion has made what it says are significant investments in 169 stores across North Carolina and South Carolina.

Much of the investment, the company notes, was in the Greenville and Wilmington markets in North Carolina and in Columbia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

To celebrate the launch of its refurbished stores, Food Lion held grand reopening festivities last month at all 169 outlets, including providing the first 50 customers at each location with a bag of free groceries.

Senior vice president of retail operations Greg Finchum says the recent investment in the company’s store base means that nearly all Food Lion stores have been upgraded.

"We invite customers to visit their local Food Lion, where they will experience firsthand new lower prices and other store enhancements, such as the greatest value in store brands and fresher produce," he says.

Food Lion’s key investments offer customers lower prices on 6,000 items throughout the store and access to store brand products — including the company’s My Essentials line — at lower prices.

To further enhance customer savings, Food Lion has added MVP Savings Centers in each of its stores and stepped up its “Fresh From the Field” initiative in its produce sections.
Executives say the investments made in the stores are based on customer feedback and will continue to position the company for future success.

The store improvement effort went beyond just upgrading Food Lion’s outlets. In addition, the company donated $2,000 to local food banks to help the agency provide up to 10,000 meals to people in need.
