WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected Walmart’s challenge of a class-action judgment against the company. Walmart was seeking to overturn a $187 million judgment over its treatment of workers in Pennsylvania between 1998 and 2006, whose suit alleged Walmart failed to pay them for all hours worked and denied them from taking full breaks.
The court’s decision not to hear Walmart’s appeal means that the 2014 ruling by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court remains intact. That ruling upheld a lower court decision that awarded the $187 million to the plaintiffs.
The case affects about 187,000 employees.
“We are disappointed the Supreme Court decided not to review our case,” a Wal-Mart spokesman said. “While we continue to believe these claims should not be bundled together in a class action lawsuit, we respect the court’s decision.”
