The campaign comes at a critical time: according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 6.8 million U.S. households experienced very low food security in 2023.
The effort comes at a time when nearly half of college students report experiencing food insecurity.
Now in its second year, the summer campaign has delivered more than 64 million meals across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint.
According to Feeding America, 1 in 5 children in the U.S. experiences hunger, a gap Food Lion Feeds aims to help fill.
Food Lion Feeds has now helped provide more than 1.5 billion meals and is committed to donating 3 billion by 2032.
For every free throw made during the regular season and tournaments, Food Lion Feeds donated the equivalent of 100 meals, up to 30,000 per team.
