TikTok unveils new AI shopping experiences

Part of an agentic commerce push that supports product discovery and frictionless transactions on its platform.

LOS ANGELES – TikTok is accelerating an agentic commerce push with the introduction of a conversational AI assistant and an in-app checkout solution.

The conversational AI agent, Shopping Assistant, guides users through the shopping journey while understanding context, remembering their needs and helping them find the right products, TikTok said in an October 5 press release.

The in-app checkout solution, Buy Direct, permits users to buy from a brand without leaving TikTok.

“Shopping Assistant and Buy Direct are two agentic solutions that help close these gaps by bringing AI-powered assistance closer to the moments of discovery and purchase, enabling shoppers to ask questions directly in the ad environment, get the details they need and easily complete the purchase when their intent is high,” according to the press release.

These agentic solutions are available to advertisers through eligibility-based testing opportunities, the company said.

TikTok cited research released last week from PF Global asserting that 54 million Americans purchased a product after watching a TikTok video in 2025. The report calculated the value of economic activity generated by TikTok at $81 billion.

The PF Global report, commissioned by TikTok, examines the platform’s economic and social impact on businesses, creators, consumers, and communities.

“Across the findings, a common theme emerged: people take what they discover on TikTok and act on it in real life,” according to the report’s  authors. “A video can become a visit to a neighborhood business, a new skill, or the starting point for a business of their own.”

TikTok also pointed to recent findings from Kantar’s “Media Reactions 2026” report, ranking TikTok as the No. 1 platform in terms of where marketers were planning to increase ad spending in 2027.

"AI is transforming how advertiser content is created and scaled," said David Kaufman, global head of monetization product partnerships at TikTok. "With our suite of solutions, we’re bringing together AI, automation, and creativity to help advertisers improve performance while reducing effort. We are enabling advertisers to create work that feels relevant, move at the speed of culture, and drive meaningful business impact."
