BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is broadening its health and wellness offerings, including expanded support for customers managing their weight, improved access to nutrition and pharmacy services, and a nationwide Wellness Day event later this month.
The retailer said its latest initiatives are designed to make wellness more accessible through pharmacist guidance, affordable healthy food, virtual care options, and preventive health services.
Earlier this month, eligible Medicare beneficiaries became eligible to access certain GLP-1 weight-loss medications for $50 per month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program. Walmart said its pharmacists are prepared to help patients understand their medications, answer questions about treatment and connect them with additional wellness resources.
Among those pharmacists is Lore Day of Walmart’s Starkville, Miss., store, who has lost 150 pounds after working with her health care provider and beginning a GLP-1 treatment plan.
“It’s been a life-changing experience — from feeling better and looking better to my self-esteem, mental health, and being more confident as a provider in the pharmacy,” Day said.
Walmart’s GLP-1 Support platform provides educational resources covering nutrition, hydration, protein and fiber intake, vitamins and supplements, fitness products, recipes, telehealth services and refrigerated prescription delivery. The retailer also offers access to curated third-party providers through its Better Care Services platform for virtual weight-management support, nutrition counseling and fitness programming.
“I have a heart for it because I’ve been there, and I know what it can do and change,” Day said.
On July 25, Walmart Wellness Day, the retailer will continue its wellness focus, with all U.S. stores offering free health screenings and assessments, pharmacist consultations, vision screenings, low-cost immunizations, and health-related giveaways from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. This year’s event will also feature education on GLP-1 therapies, nutrition guidance, medication support, same-day pharmacy delivery, and virtual care services.
In addition to expanding health services, Walmart is investing in affordability across wellness categories. The company is offering more than 300 Rollbacks on fresh produce and other groceries, including watermelons, blueberries, cherries and organic ground beef, as well as more than 150 Rollbacks on wellness products such as protein bars, protein powders, vitamins, supplements and athletic footwear.
Walmart is also introducing Wellness Minis in about 2,000 stores and online. The assortment features smaller packages from emerging wellness brands, with prices starting at $2, allowing customers to sample products before buying full-size versions.
The company said the combined initiatives reflect its broader strategy to help customers access trusted health guidance, affordable products, and convenient services throughout their wellness journeys.
