BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Construction of Walmart’s first “next-generation” fulfillment center in the Southeast is set to begin in Carnesville, Ga.
When completed, the 1.5 million-square-foot automated facility will be the sixth such center that Walmart has developed as it expands its same-day and next-day shipping capabilities across the United States.

The facilities – four already open in Joliet, Ill.; McCordsville, Ind.; Lancaster, Texas; and Greencastle, Pa., and a fifth being built in Stockton, Calif. – feature high-density storage and automated order-flow systems designed to double storage capacity and daily order throughput.
More than half of Walmart's e-commerce fulfillment volume in the U.S. is processed through an automated facility. Automated fulfillment is central to Walmart’s goal of shortening delivery times. The company said it doubled the number of orders delivered within 30 minutes in its most recent quarter.
In addition to the new fulfillment centers, Walmart is upgrading each of its 42 regional distribution centers with automation projects including robotics solutions and storage-and-retrieval systems that streamline the process of unloading, receiving, picking, packing and shipping merchandise.
Walmart said construction on the new fulfillment center will begin later this year at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center in Carnesville. The company expects the hub will create 1,000 new jobs and bring $1.3 billion in investment to Franklin County.
Walmart’s presence in Georgia includes 209 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations and 11 supply chain facilities.
