American Greetings Corp. has introduced two innovative lines of birthday cards. The first collection, called Ready, Set, Blow, delivers an entire multimedia celebration within the traditional form of a card.

On opening a card in the line, the recipient is prompted to blow on it, thereby activating a special sensor that triggers LED lights and sounds. In each card, a breath of air extinguishes birthday candles, activates horns and lights, or recreates a childhood wish on a dandelion.

For children, the company has introduced Surprise Inside, a collection of cards that contain a surprise gift pouch that children can rip open to find a surprise toy coordinated with the theme of the card, such as princess wands or safari maps, among others. A removable sticker indicates to the sender what the secret gift is.
