Walmart’s Asda chain has outlined a number of ambitious growth plans taking advantage of new opportunities and leveraging its global scale.
The United Kingdom chain aspires to be the nonfood market leader and unchallenged No. 2 player in food within five years.
To that end, it plans to open 100 smaller Asda food stores and 150 Asda Living nonfood stores.
Also planned are a nationwide rollout of the “Order Online, Collect in Store” service, and the use of global merchandising centers to further leverage Walmart’s international scale.
The retailer, too, has launched the Asda Price Guarantee, a lowest-price program that enables customers to compare Asda’s prices with those of competitors online. With the debut of the program, Asda said it has "fired the final shot in the supermarket price wars" and promised to beat competitors’ prices.
