BURBANK, Calif. — Next month Walt Disney Co. plans to launch a new fashion line for tween girls that will be sold exclusively at Target discount stores.

Next month Walt Disney Co. plans to launch a new fashion line for tween girls that will be sold exclusively at Target discount stores.

Called D-Signed, the apparel and accessories line will be based on the fashion styles of popular Disney Channel characters, instead of featuring character images, according to Disney. The first products are slated to become available Aug. 1 at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com.

"We are thrilled to work with Disney on this fun and stylish program just in time for back to school," Trish Adams, senior vice president at Target Corp., said in a statement. "The affordable line is perfect for our trendy tween guests that want to stand out in the crowd."

Disney said its consumer products unit collaborated with Target to deliver the attire, which can be mixed and matched for tween girls in sizes 4 to 16.

"Tween girls want fashionable clothes that express their individuality and style but that moms approve of," commented Pam Lifford, executive vice president of global fashion and home at Disney Consumer Products. "Our D-Signed collection at Target brings it all together in a way that allows young girls to express their fashion sense with quality clothing at budget friendly prices."

The first D-Signed items to be rolled out are inspired by the personal style of the Sonny Munroe character from Disney’s "Sonny With A Chance" television show. Ranging from $4.99 to $19.99, the Sonny Munroe D-Signed collection includes embellished graphic tees, skirts, dresses, pants, knit dresses, shorts, fashion tops and jackets, headbands, necklaces and bags. The initial collection will be available for three months, followed by a second assortment of apparel and accessories from the Sonny Munroe collection available at Target just in time for the holidays.

Future collections of D-Signed, Disney said, will include fashions based on the style of other popular Disney Channel characters, including Alex Russo on "Wizards of Waverly Place."
