Dollar General donates $1 million to Feeding America, surpassing 90 million meals in food support

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General is expanding its efforts to combat hunger with a new $1 million donation to Feeding America, extending a partnership that has delivered both financial support and millions of meals to communities across the country.

The retailer said the latest contribution brings its financial support to Feeding America to more than $6 million since 2019. In addition, in-kind food donations from Dollar General stores and distribution centers have provided the equivalent of more than 90 million meals to Feeding America's network of local food banks serving more than half of U.S. counties.

"Dollar General is proud to continue our partnership with Feeding America to help meet the needs of individuals and families in our hometown communities," said Denine Torr, Dollar General's vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. "We are honored to support Feeding America's work in more than half of all counties nationwide. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to expanding food access and making a meaningful difference for our neighbors who depend on these vital resources."

Feeding America said Dollar General's combination of financial contributions and product donations has strengthened the organization's ability to recover and distribute food to families facing hunger.

"We're proud to partner with Dollar General, whose commitment through generous product donations and financial support helps ensure perfectly good food that neighbors want and need can make it to communities nationwide."

While not a traditional grocery retailer, Dollar General said it continues to expand access to affordable food and household essentials in underserved communities. The company also offers Better For You food options, health and wellness products and remains a USDA MyPlate National Strategic Partner through the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion's Nutrition Communicators Network.
