Industry mourns passing of Jack Futterman, former Pathmark CEO

NEW YORK — Jack Futterman, former chairman and chief executive officer of Pathmark Stores and a former chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, died Monday at age 82.

Jack Futterman, former chairman and chief executive officer of Pathmark Stores and a former chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, died Monday at age 82.

A pharmacist, Futterman joined Pathmark in 1973 as vice president of its drug store and general merchandise divisions and held a variety of positions before becoming chairman and CEO in 1989. He retired from that post in March 1996. From June through December 1999, he served as chairman and CEO of Party City Stores. He has been a director on the board of The Hain Celestial Group since December 1996.

Futterman served on the NACDS board of directors and held the post of NACDS chairman from 1994 to 1995.
